SGP Upholstery is a family-run business, founded by husband-and-wife team Shaun and Rachel Plunkett in December 2020. Following on from a conversation with a friend who also had space to accommodate a workshop in his premises in South Normanton. So after a week of discussions and planning, their lifelong ambition of starting an upholstery company finally came true.
The following weeks were a pretty hectic period setting up, equipping and establishing a fully functioning upholstery workshop ready in time to start trading in the New Year.

Both Shaun and Rachel have a long working relationship and a fine pedigree within the upholstery and furniture manufacturing industry in the East Midlands.
Between them both they accumulated a vast amount of experience, skills and traditional craftsmanship in their 35 years career within the upholstery and furniture making business.

Shaun Plunkett
Shaun started his training as an upholsterer after leaving his Ilkeston school in 1986 and worked his way up to senior upholsterer and then into various management positions for successful local furniture companies with millions of pounds in annual turnover. His career as seen him work with high-end brands such as Liberty’s of London and Designers Guild.
Shaun was also responsible for the design and development of many successful furniture ranges for well – known high street retailers.
Rachel Plunkett
Rachel also plays an active role in the new business, helping Shaun with collections and deliveries but, more importantly, sewing the more complex pieces as she is a fully qualified time served lock stitch sewing machinist. Rachel also worked for a variety of well known furniture manufacturers throughout her upholstery career.
